SEO/SEM Presentation

In my Social Media Strategies class, we had a guest speaker come and talk about SEO and SEM.

Dr. Thomas Mueller is a profesor at Appalachian State University.

SEO stands for search engine optimization. According to webopedia.com, search engine optimization is a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine. SEM stands for search enginge marketing. Webopedia.com defines SEM as a type of Internet marketing associated with the researching, submitting and positioning of a website within search engines to achieve maximum visibility and increase your share of paid and/or organic traffic referrals from search engines.

Dr. Mueller's main point was the importance of getting your content in front of as many people as you can. This includes using multiple platforms to spread your content. You can also recycle your content across your different social media accounts. For example, posting a link to your blog post to your Twitter and Facebook pages.

Dr. Mueller also focused on the power of Twitter. Don't be afriad to use several hashtags in your Tweets so they can get more exposure. It is also important to use the mention feature in your tweets. Even if the person mentioned doesn't retweet or favorite your tweet, there is still a possilbility that your Tweet will be seen by the mentioned person. On the other hand, there is alos the possiblity that they will retweet it, which will

get you and your Tweet even more exposure!
