Why a Social Media Strategy Plan is Essential to Developing Your Business

Social media has taken off in the past several years. The rise of several social media platforms has raised the bar for how buisnesses can advertise and increase brand awareness. You might find that you are a bit confused when it comes to developing a social media plan for your business, or skeptical about the results that may or may not happen as a result of the plan. Never fear! My hope is that this post can serve as a foundation and guide to the development of your social media strategy.

(NOTE: the main steps in the following post are from socialmediaexaminer.com with my thoughts added in the body unless otherwise stated. The site lists 8 goals, but I'm only going to focus on a few in this post. Stay tuned for the rest in the coming posts!)

Step 1: Identify Business Goals

If you find yourself having trouble as to where to begin your strategy, this is the place to start! Listing out your goals is a great way to have a tangible visual for your business and can help get the creative juices flowing. Setting goals is essential in order for you to move forward with your strategy (socialmediaexaminer.com).

There may be several goals that are catered to your business specifically. However, socialmediaesaminer.com suggests these goals that are relevant to every business: increasing brand awareness, retaining customers and reducing marketing costs (socialmediaexaminer.com).

Start of small. You can always add more goals. Starting off with too many aspirations may seem a bit overwhelming and not yeild results as successfully as starting with a few goals.

Step 2: Set Marketing Objectives

In order for your goals to work and to be achieved, you have to have specific parameters that can help reach your company goals. Socialmediaexamier.com lists these steps to help you set parameters for your strategy: make your objectives specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound (socialmediaexaminer.com).

It is important to remember to set goals you can achieve.

These are only the first two steps to developing a social media strategy for your business. Stay tuned for the rest of the steps in future posts!

As always, thank you for reading and I hope this was helpful!
