Don't fake it.

Last week in class, we had two guest speakers: Ceci Dadisman and Carolyn Clark. Ceci is a former Digital Marketer, speaker, nonprofit empowered, and former Director of Communications for the Palm Beach Opera. Carolyn Clark works with Yahoo! as the director of internal and corporate communications.

Ceci focused on the importance of having and maintaining a (your) persona on social media. The persona you have online helps you to target in on your preferred demographic. Ceci also mentioned how content and graphics can also drive traffic to your site. A graphic doesn't necessarily have to be a photographed image; it can be an infographic or a graphic that you made with the Adobe Suite, or anything of that like. As long as it's something visual, that could potentially increase and drive traffic to your site.

Ceci stressed the importance of content. Content matters! What your content is about matters, but it's also important to have a consistent presence on social media and push content out consistently. Your content must also be engaging! You can post content all day every day, but if it's not interesting to or catered to your target demographic, the consistency won't necessarily matter.

Carolyn Clark gave some great advice about heading out into the real world and balancing work and life. Carolyn gave some great examples about how to cater your cover letter and skills set to the job you're interested in. Your skills should be represented honestly, while also being in line with the job you're interested in. It's all about shaping your experience to the position you're looking in to.

She went on to talk about the importance of honesty. There will be times in my career where I won't know how to do something. I'm not going to start my fresh-out-of-college job knowing everything. That's okay! It's important to ask questions when you have them and ask for help when you need it. This can show your employer that you're willing to learn.

As I'm nearing the end of my college career and my entrance into the real world, I will take the advice from both of these wonderful ladies to heart and keep it in mind as I move on to this next journey in life!
