Why a Social Media Marketing Plan is Essential to Developing your Business (continued)

Welcome back!

A few posts ago, I broke down the first two reasons as to why a social media strategy plan is essential to your business. This post will break down the next two reasons!

*note: again, content is derived from http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/essential-elements-social-media-marketing-strategy/ with thoughts of my own added*

Step 3: Identify Ideal Customers

This step is where you will identify the persona of your audience. Identifying the persona of your audience can help you define your audience and target your preferred demographic(s). Identifying and knowing the persona of your audience can also help you develop and cater your message to the audience. According to socialmediaexaminer.com, when you know your target audience’s age, occupation, income, interests, pains, problems, obstacles, habits, likes, dislikes, motivations and objections, then it’s easier and cheaper to target them on social or any other media (socialmediaexaminer.com). The key here is to be as specific as possible!

Below is an example of an audience persona from socialmediaexaminer.com.

Step 4: Research Competition

Researching your competition is an absolutely essential part to developing a social media marketing strategy. Research helps you to be aware of what other companies in your same field are doing, as well as gives insight into elements of a strategy that do or do not work. From there, you can develop ideas for your own strategy based off of successes or failures of your competitors.

Socialmediaexaminer.com suggests to start by compiling a list of at least 3-5 main competitors. Search which social networks they’re using and analyze their content strategy. Look at their number of fans or followers, posting frequency and time of day (socialmediaexaminer.com). You should also be paying attention to the type of content competitors are posting and how they interact/engage with their audience.

Stay tuned for the next two steps in future post!
